Sponsored links are paid listings on SERPs (SearchEngineResultsPages). Sponsored links in Google, for example, generally appear on the right hand side of the page in a vertical column or along the top of the page in a horizontal strip (below the search box, but above the "normal" OrganicSearchResults).

Google's program for advertisers to create ad copy and designate search terms for which their ads will appear is known as Google AdWords.
